i just got out of school in '02 but i've seen and learned alot from creative directors and people in the hiring position as to what they look for. it's sad with all the NEW media, the focus in many new designers is not the basics–the foundation of design, it's in the next coolest way to do a intertia-mouse chasing navigation..
you know what i mean, study great designers and typographers of the last century and beyond, you'll see why they're considered 'great'
