i grew up in a very poor family. so poor, in fact, our first vcr was given to us by the janitor of our church. the karate kid was the first show i recorded with it, and incidentally, the last as the decrepit hand-me-down's recording capability quit working.
anyway, i watched that fucking movie so many goddamned times i knew it word-for-word.
two years ago, i was having lunch with a friend and i relayed my funny sad-bastard story. turns out he's good friends with billy zabka (johnny) and informed me they had just shot the karate kid music video for the band 'no more kings' and that i was welcomed to go to the wrap party with him. it certainly wasn't as exciting as it would have been if i were a kid, but i couldn't help but enjoy the nostalgia of it all.
