To be fair, they're merely charting the same course of all human progress by standing on the shoulders of giants, as Newton put it.
This is the prime benefit of a well-networked open source movement - by employing techniques developed and made available by their peers, developers only need work on the specific deployment of their own principle or abstraction. Any one of us who is dedicated enough and appropriately technically proficient could build a small team and pull something like this with a bit of legwork. Ok, that's a tweak of an exaggeration, but really not much. When the rate of technological change rises as exponentially as it as the moment, it's possible to ride many waves forward.
That said, if that one Indian dude put the bulk of it together.. phwoa.
