Furthermore: the truth is GOD's truth, not MY truth. Claiming that there is only one way, one truth and one life is not arrogant, because it implies nothing about any supposed superiority I possess. Again, God has chosen to show me that he is superior, rather than the other way around. The difference is tremendous, but so often misunderstood by people who rankle at the notion of absolute truth.
Let's say for a second that there is not absolute truth. Let's say that we each invent our own heaven, and that it's OK for our varying notions of truth to be contradictory. I would still rather search for something larger than myself, because truth cannot contradict itself. I would rather be an eternal fool who knew there was something bigger than himself and never found it, than a popular and well-liked humanist who is content with worshipping what he sees in the mirror.
