I bought a 17" in May. My first Mac ever. Best investment I've ever made. It doesn't crash, no matter how much stress I put on it (more than I ever tried to do with my PC desktop, and it handles like a champ). A friend of mine who's a journalism student uses her 15" Powerbook mainly for Photoshop and less intensive graphics-oriented programs, and she loves it.

The only problem I've ever had with mine is that once, back in July, it suddenly started changing settings on me. Nothing major, and it never hurt any of my files, but certain factory settings were just restored out of the blue. A week or so later, it went back to my settings I had specified before, no warning. It didn't hurt anything, but it was enough to throw me off-guard for a little while.

My significant other has an older Powerbook (G3, 1999), which he still uses daily as his main machine for Photoshop, Illustrator, and various other design programs. A few friends of mine (5th year digital design students) have the same model, and have absolutely loved it. They're more expensive, yes, but I personally believe it pays off in the long run.
