use vectors as much as possible as they are resolution independent. if you do use photos, they better be really high dpi. build the file at quarter or eigth size. stand back from your monitor often to make sure you see things from a distance. my first billboard had atrocious leading. and i had to drive by the bastard everytime i went to Starbucks >:(
