to track back a few pages....
i was describing to you the value of books and how its understood and achieved. in comic books the value is set by 1 authority, Diamond Comics Distributers. http://www.diamondcomics.com/pub…
they are in charge of the majority of the sales of any books anywhere in the galaxy. the numbers for worth are determinded soley on print run then artist/ editor/ writter/ publisher/ year/ issue number/ and so forth.
yet its the print run that can guarantee the worth of any title. but these figures are generally tame and stable. the amazing spider-man #583 with obama on the cover went thru 6 printings with multiple variant cover arts.
it was not the frist of obama in a comic but it was the one that came out on the very day of obama's inauguration.
that book even with the amazing sales numbers which will put the books value at a certain place, to maincore fans, the books falls very short in terms of story content, art, and writing and those negatives will also determine the value of the book, which wont be fully realized until at least a decade has passed.
the last time a book was given this much noteriety world wide was superman #75 the death of superman poly bagged and shipped in 3 versions, 1st printing black, 2nd printing white and 3rd printing red poly bags. the books were getting so much world wide press that even weeks b4 the book was released it was sold out. now that kinda a strange way of stating the value of the title even b4 it ships, so retailers have at their leisure the ability to raise the price of a book, one that garners so much world wide press, well each retailer will have a certain amount that they have purchased so the ycan adjust the pricings to their needs, now superman #75 went so high in price that for months the book kept getting higher value prices to it and retailers and consumers couldnt get enough of it.
the actual print run on Supes#75 was 1million 1st printings, that number is massaive and it went into from what i remember like 13 printings, so with so much out there of 1 book the value took a very hard drop which both Diamond Comics Distributers and basicly every retailer knew but never told the maincore fans and they all lost value hard.this is the same for the spider-man obama.
now the value of a #1 FF4 is set by the year it was shipped fduring what is considdered the Silver Age of comics so it gets its value strictly due to the nature of the years past and the condition of the book, the issue# and thats pretty much it.
