i don't have an answer for this just yet but thought i would comment only because it is one of the exact questions that was going through my mind on my drive home tonite. i recently posted some personal music of mine for free download and the first responses were nothing but criticism and vulgar images with claims that it was spam and sh*t. these same people have never posted anything slightly creative themselves but have somehow "gained the right to pass judgement" themselves. i know their type, they are the ones that i was in art school with that are now working the fedex counter at kinkos helping us ship our art across the country. they have clearly created their own subculture.
