the way i see it, being a good designer is as easy as being polite–you're explaining something to a large group of people. do it in a way that is easy enough for everyone to get, try to make it interesting and nice looking enough for everyone to enjoy and when someone gives you a critique–listen to them. no one designs for themselves, the design is for others so you should care most about how others interpret your attempt at communication.

    • I do understand this, thanks. I think what bothered me was that she seemed to really like all the concepts, and the classjuhls
    • told her and me that they loved it, so I felt a bit deceived with the final grade. But for the next one I am going to listen more tojuhls
    • what the prof wants, and maybe I will lose a bit of myself by doing that. Hopefully not. But it's a possibility.juhls
    • "lose a bit of myself" meaning that it won't be as nice as I had envisioned. But maybe I will get a better mark.juhls
    • yeah that is a letdown. i find it's best not to attach a whole lot of emotion to your work so you're not on a million rollercoasters throughout your career_salisae_
    • throughout your career_salisae_
    • even though rollercoasters can be fun_salisae_
    • Yeah. I will just make sure to show her what I have and see what she thinks of it before it comes down to the final due datejuhls
    • once you figure out how to communicate then you can develop a style and involve yourself more_salisae_
    • I guess, in this case, I've been valuing the opinion of my peers more than my professor. Which is both appropriate and inappropriatejuhls
    • inappropriate.juhls
    • which is similar to listening to your design friends instead of the client. the trick, of course, is to please them all._salisae_
    • haha, we'll see what happens.juhls
    • this is why I'm not a good designer
