forgetting for a second, as requested, the lack of contrast, other than the two nondescript white letters in the middle, kind of make it all blur together. i mean the way you played with the light on the patch is nice, but all i see is a symbol, and an aggressive, non-friendly one at that (though i guess that's all in the interpretation).
Maybe if you chose a different font to display the letters in, one which counteracts the connotation of the symbol, it would give people pause enough to wonder what it's about and find out more
