Massimo Vignelli is a stylist just like Carson. Look at his terrible map of NY subways that everyone hated. He stylized information into a style he thought was the ultimate solution for everything, but it isn't.
Real designers are the people who do eye tracking studies and try to understand how neurons processes information. They don't subscribe to some grid religion and push it on everything and everyone despite evidence that it doesn't create the intended results.
