I'm with Horton - I'd kind of expect breadcrumbs or a Red Riding Hood style cape'n'hat or something. Conceptually, the first option is the one that rings truest, but it's too dark and foreboding and entirely unsuitable for purpose.
Have to say that I prefer Brains' amendments to 3 - I was left wondering why there was a focus on the O, whereas the focus on 'in the' makes a lot more sense. Though, I prefer the version without the stem, as the jumble somehow says 'lost' to me, where it doesn't otherwise.
