I do get science kelpie and I knew I would get a response of this nature, rightly so, 'cos I can't articulate my point well. And I know I'm in danger of sounding like Karl Pilkington! ; )
But the "highly likely" comment is a valid one. There are no absolutes and there can be huge differences in opinion amongst the scientific community.
Like you say (and this is the one thing which they do have on their side) is that (the good one's) don't claim to know the truth or have all the answers.
I guess my argument has more to do with the reporting of scientific discoveries and how stats can be manipulated and by third parties, which, in turn causes the public to get a skewed version of what the scientists have found.
