^^ I've heard a few people talk about this ... cutting FICA. That honestly sounds like the best idea to me. It puts money right in the pockets of workers and their employers - which would help keep and possibly grow jobs, stimulate the economy. All at the same time. I mean, a billion dollars to Amtrak sounds amazing and all .. but I don't see how that stimulates anything but the tracks they roll on.
- a) I agree about the FICA cut. B) wouldn't the build out of a rail system employ lots of people?TheBlueOne
- Europe and Japan both have amazing hi-speed rail systems? Why don't we?TheBlueOne
- Add jobs to an entity that hasn't turned a dime in what, decades? // Sounds like a great long term investment.tommyo
- Demand for public transport went way up when gas was $4/gal. It will most definitely go up to $4+/gal sooner than we think.joeth
- odd how the european and japanese rail systems turn profits. Of course, they were properly funded.TheBlueOne
- ..the republicans have strangled AMTRAk from the beginning...TheBlueOne
- ..can't have a good public transportation system when their are oil profits to be made.TheBlueOne

- Air travel is pretty affordable and more time efficient. Locally though we all have Metro systems. Amtrak just doesn'ttommyo
- seem to have much of a niche to fall into. Just my opinion of course.tommyo
- Okay so ... let's say Amtrak gets more money. 1bn. What are they going to do with it to now somehow become viable?tommyo
- I wish we all had Metro systems. A lot of major cities still don't.joeth
- I hear what you're saying about air, but that'll go up. Amtrak should get more trains going where there is the most demand.joeth
