I skipped class and went to a protest today on behalf of civilians in Sri Lanka. My sister was more involved, and gave interviews to various news stations and radio programs. She speaks English quite well and is young and passionate, which other Tamil people need and want right now. Nearly my entire family was there, and we even saw lots of extended family members who travelled over here from Toronto.
During the protest Jack Layton (NDP (left-wing) leader) showed up and said that he would have an emergency debate in Parliament about the Sri Lankan Civil war (after seeing the hundreds of people protesting). I'm watching some of it on CPAC now. Some actions have already been promised by the Conservative party (who are the leaders of Canada right now), and they're debating about the whole "terrorist" versus "freedom fighter" issue, as well as coming up with more ideas.
