Created this my sophomore year in high school, around 1998. Was working at the local cable company for about a year or so at that point, and had made friends with the guys in the Graphics Dept., who did all of the on-air graphics and stuff for our local channels. I was completely obsessed with the work they did, but for some reason, I didn't like motion graphics or video at the time, just the idea of taking a flat graphic and making it into a variety of things. So I hung out around their office all the time, bugging them to no end I'm sure, and finally one day this guy Tran gave me a copy of Photoshop to take home and install. About a week later, I called up every company in the area I could trying to get a job doing graphics. I eventually got a referral to talk to the owner of this eye shop, and he told me he'd pay me $300 to design him a print ad for a local newspaper, because he liked my motivation.

After a couple of sketches, and some ellipse shapes in Photoshop combined with a plastic wrap filter, I had made my first paid job. Found this over this past weekend in a box while digging through my parents' garage looking for old music CDs.
