  If I were you, I would send her a note explaining what you have said here, stressing that you didn’t and do not expect a reward. Maybe just lay it out as like a parable of what can happen when we all have the attitude to do the right thing. Maybe suggest what may have happened if you’d decided to keep that check book, or what may have happened if a less honest person had found it – or what if it had been her Blackberry with all her personal info in it.

  These cheese-shop-types need to woken the fuck up now and then that they are living in a society, and a little common fucking courtesy doesn’t hurt anyone.
