I lived in B'more for 15 years. I think it's a pretty cool town if you know where to go, and where not to go.

Hands down one of the most authentic Irish pubs on the East Coast is in South Baltimore, called J. Patrick's. Jay himself still bartends at the ripe old age of 70-something. He came over on the boat some 30/40 years ago. Still uses the shelaligh method of security, but rarely has to make threats these days.

The best Indian food I have ever tasted is at the Ambassador Dining Room, off University near JHU. Also while down there, the BMA has a decent collection. Some nice Pollock and Warhol pieces in particular, last time I was there.

There are a lot of great restaurants, pubs, galleries—just stay out of the obvious places like the Inner Harbor. Whatever you do, don't go west of MLK Jr. Blvd, and don't go further west on Cold Spring Lane than Loyola.

    Good providence to ya.
