Pirate capitalism is no longer cool so why is the skull still so much in the forefront of graphic tees etc? Maybe its one of those paradoxical signs that are empty and full at the same time. Post-ironic in that there is exhaustion is seeing it so much that it becomes only decorative the way the american flag was in the 60s, the coca-cola logo in the 70's, Hard Rock cafe in 80s, paris hilton in 90s.
