    Still here. This would normally go in the blog thread, but...

    A client asked me to design a CD label that followed the corporate style guide (very proscriptive and inflexible) and was “eye catching”. So I thought I’d incorporate parts of the silver disc surface into the design and work the other elements around that.

    She sends me an email – preceded by a phone call that goes like this...

    HER: “I can’t say I like them. They are very plain and dull. Silver is not one of our corporate colours.

    ME:...

    HER: I’ll send through something that takes part of the logo and uses that as a design element.

    ME: The corporate guidelines forbid the breaking up of the logo to use as design elements.

    HER: Just try please. Just ignore the guidelines for that part. And don’t copy what I send through, just use the idea as a basis, but still do what they’ve done.
