hello and welcome noob
ok, for starters go here and take a look at a very similar, very well done minimalistic site in black, white and one color.
the typography he's chosen is pretty hard to read and looks like it should be found in some nights of the roundtable nerd recreation weekend excursion flyer. i like how he's gone simple but he needs to go clean and watch spacing, sizing and relationships in one another on the page. and the grid, pay special attention to the grid.
