It's funny, I started design with a very 'cosmetic' approach, I was into making cool stuff and playing around with letters and image and as long as it looked 'cool' that was fine by me. I did some very cool things. Before they even had been invented as cool. Cool I was.
Nowadays I realy want to know a little about the brief or the problem in hand, I find it odd to comment on whether "I like" something when given no context, and it's rare to see anyone on QBN question that, they can offer logo crit without even knowing what the logo is for which strikes me as ridiculous.
I think I would like to start doing some collage or something just to get back into the realm of the cosmetic and leave the worrying about ticking checkboxes to the 'work'. It does surprise me how naïve many designers seem to be as to what it is they are producing, they just... make pictures.
- knowing that we know little about the problem in hand, I still enjoy the formal elements********
- I need to balance myself and get back into the cosmetic, is what I'm saying. I think.********
- Some need to balance themselves the other way.********
- your point is like a fine wine********
