I don't know if things have changed over the last few years (though really doubt it), but I know that Alexa (etc) stats are horrifically inaccurate for sites that are in any way niche or outwith the normal or techie spheres. Relying on the relatively small SEO-focused demographic slice to project figures for the overall population seems more than foolhardy to me.
