i know that this sounds boring, but i think you should consider going to white. taste aside, the green is affecting the colors of the photos (and displaying them is the main purpose of the site).
i would then consider using the green on just the logo and as an accent color... maybe on buttons? etc.
hope that helps.
- i've thought about that as well and that was my concern that it might be a bit distracting from the overal purpose of the site and promoting the work.johngrif
