I agree with Jimbo, I very much doubt he uses stooges, I think your pre-programmed to react cynically to that. We do what he does every day of our lives, he's just devoted his adult life to amplifying it. Add in some genuine 'magic of tele' stuff, some slight of hand (the box was definitely switched when he fell over), and some very suggestible, pre-screened people and you've got his act.
