    LONG POST ALERT...
An aside, by way of a warning about bottling up resentment towards neighbours as opposed to addressing it in a timely fashion....
The last place I lived in London, in Mapesbury (which is actually just Kilburn with Begonias), I had this lovely big flat in a really tranquil road... except for the downstairs neighbours who would frequently erupt into the most horrific screaming, shouting and loud-as-fuck door slamming in the middle of the night. It would go on for hours on end and was really quite soul churningly horrible.
After many months of simmering in resentment about this, one night I finally flipped. I got dressed and charged down, pounded on their door and shouted at them to OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR. NOW. A really haggard woman, who looked a bit like Edvard Munch's "The Scream" answered the door meakly and I really laid into her verbally about the months of misery we had endured listening to her family tear the flat and each other to pieces. I went on to ask, loudly and aggressively, if there was perhaps something wrong with them. If perhaps they might actually be mental... becuase from upstairs it certainly sounds like they were completely fucking mental and should probably be in an institution of some kind.
The woman confirmed with tear filled eyes that yes, indeed, her 15 year old son was 'mental' but there was no facility for caring for him so they had to do the best they could at home. She told me through her sobs that it had ruined their lives, and she was really very sorry to hear it was also now ruining ours. Her grief was raw and limitless as I curled up and died right there on her doorstep.
