I think its the "closeness" of Israel that makes what happens there more important than the Congo.
The Congo is a failed state, it's not part of the international system of nations. The various factions fighting there are not aided and abetted by any Security Council country. The West has "no involvement" and "no interest" there. Washed its hands of a far flung land.
Israel, on the other hand, is part of the international system of nations. It is the closest ally of Europe and the US outside the Atlantic. It enjoys exceptional relations with both Europe and the US. It was founded and continues to be bankrolled by the two entities. We are its biggest trading partner. The regime has received and continues to receive unfettered support from us. It is the recipient of the biggest cash and arms aid in the world. It's our "pet project".
It is part of who we are, and where we stand.
