Great thread. Just yesterday I was scanning my ipod for old stuff and came across a band I totally fell out of love with over the years, The Promise Ring:
Nothing Feels Good
I had a listen to the whole thing yesterday and it really made me think of life before the Internet, mid 90s, when everything didn't revolve entirely around web sites and web communication and email, cell phones, google maps, Wi-Fi, GPS navigation.
I was really moved listening to the lyrics because the whole album seems to be about the open road, the life of getting in the van and hitting the road to tour as a band. Stuff that you pass by. Wrong turns you make. The fun of showing up in a new town. Having only a map to get you where you're going.
It was really a great listen. It's been at least 6 years since I've listened to that album. My band never really has toured beyond going to play at SXSW in 2007, but it really made me long to have been in a band back then and had some of those experiences at that age.
- Hmmm... have to check it out. Thanks.Lasko
