  He says he is missing a hormone that helps him digest or take in nutrients, right? There are a lot of hormones involved with eating. He had some kind of surgery on his pancreas before, I think. Some of these hormones and produced by the pancreas. If he lost most of it and/or it was damaged from his previous treatments ... I think it is possible he does not process food appropriately and may have lost a lot of wight as a result. He could have cancer again too. We probably won't know until he dies. Whatever he is going through probably is shitty. Hope he is able to make a rapid recovery.
