The Guggenheim has a terrible photography exhibit up right now, so don't go there unless you don't mind spending $15 just to say you have been. Bamiyan is an amazing Afghani restaraunt on 3rd and 26th. L&L Hawaiian Barbecue is a great place to go if you're poor and need A LOT of food. MOMA is always a winner.
The best thing you could probably do is checkout couchsurfing.com and find a local to hang out with and show you around. It may seem sketchy, but having a tour guide (a free one) is the best way to see New York.
