My last boss was kind of a hot-head, but it was a four person studio and we were all chummy with each other. More like an uncle than a boss. But when he used to get in a shitty mood (usually because he was under a deadline or something) i'd ask him if he wanted a hug and he'd bark back (in a joking way) something about hugging a tractor-trailers bumper or whatever. But it would somewhat diffuse the tension that was in the air. He was definately one of those people whose mood was contagious.
