well personally i pay for all my software, but i still use little snitch. all kinds of apps like to phone home and transmit your personal data. sometimes i'm on the road and i'm using a slow connection or i'm paying for every bit that travels thru my connection, it's nice to be able to stop itunes from making sure everything is ok back at apple hq every 5 minutes
