I stopped nearly 2 years ago cold turkey, after 18 years of heavy smoking. it's no big deal at all if you really want to quit. the physical need is totally gone after a couple of days, but mentally it got really hard after a couple months. if you really want to stop you just have to move throught that, and it does get easier eventually. after about a year. and now, after 2 years, I hardly ever think of smoking anymore.
