I was going to bed but I just thought I'd check out that Dirtylipbalm thread. Really, this whole body of work leaves me cold. It lets me know that I'm on the outside now, with out-dated thoughts and irrelevant desires to be as original as it is possible to be. I think for the younger generation originality has no meaning or value for them. Its not a currency they trade in.

I don't think they trade in it at all. They are the children of late twentieth century parents who began resampling the past in the 80's by referencing the 50's and the 30's, and who looked at the 60's in the early 90's and the 70 in the late 90's and then the 80's again in the early 2000's.

I think people want that guy to feel shame for copying, but I don't think he could really ever get that. He's using technology to create a polished body of work that references the best he can find out there, and the intention is to sell himself as best he can to be succesful and wealthy... which part of that are we hoping he might graciously give up?

    • I want him to be killed by the machine in Kafka's 'In the Penal Colony'. Too unoriginal though.
