the commodification of street art panel was worth a listen - the irony of it all got me a bit dizzy - i.e., an event sponsored by nike to promote dialogue about art and creativity includes a session in which a panelist who works for nike discusses the value that nike brings to the art community. an interesting form of advertising it seems - turning the event itself into an infomercial. ryan mcginness and shepard fairey both spoke well - in quite different ways - on the subject.
the panel with abderrahim foukara from al jazeera and a rep from the US state dept. was definitely a highlight - exposing the not-so-subtle tactics the gov is using to attempt to pursuade muslims that we all live in a yellow submarine.
