1. have a concept
2. communication not decoration
3. address aspects of: audience, message, medium
4. Two typefaces max but sometimes three.
5. pick colors on purpose
6. use negative space wisely
7. learn the tools but don't fall in love with them.
8. use a grid but break it when that works better.
9. treat clients with respect, honesty and fairness.
10. value your time and don't give it away. charge what you are worth.
11. get a contract and a payment up front.
12. try to enjoy what you do and do more than just work.
13. save some money so that you can walk away from a job/client if you don't agree with what you are asked to do.
14. spend less than you make.good luck
