I think you have too many colours. I liked the Blue Gradient in the first Nav (the lines under the links), I think I very limited pallette using that blue and a bright or rusty orange as an accent with Greys might work better. At the moment you have greys, blue, maroon, red and olive green.
If you want to grid this up a little more work on a nine column grid - 2 columns for logo and one each for the nav.
I'd keep the nine col grid and left align the footer as well to maintain the modern feel.
