whilst enjoying those first few paychecks at a new small design firm, and thinking 'this is the best!..im finally getting paid!' do yourself a BIG FAT FAVOUR and save most of it..
if your paycheck is a grand, say...
    save atleast 150-200...everytime.

    trust me.

sorry to say, that most small design firms don't last too long...

and if you live high on the hog, drink your arse off, and live paycheck to paycheck...

in 8 months when they lay your ass off, cuz they can't make payroll....

the SMART ones will have a nice cushion of backup savings to tide themselves over whilst getting a new gig..
while YOU on the other hand, will be running around like a chicken with your head cut off, looking for a new gig, so that you can make rent..

its like the grasshopper and the ant story...

i was the grasshopper for several years, and have spent the last 3 being the ant...
believe me...it's WAY better knowing you have cash to ride out the hard times..
