my very favorite book this year is Women by Charles Bukowski. I haven't actually read it, but my neighbor – the bartender who kept waking me up in the middle of the night with the moaning of his many overnight lady friends – did and he has given up womanizing ever since! he now plays boggle with a couple of friends until 4 in the morning and is perfectly happy.

when i asked him how he liked the book he said he thought the writing was okay, he wasn't that impressed. but when you look at what the writing has done – it's seeped into his psyche and rewired his brain – that is pretty amazing.

i don't know if i even want to read this book but it is on the top of my 2008 favorite book list. coming in second would be kafka on the shore .. which i did read.
