  you're right, you don't need all that stuff. you also don't need to reinvent the wheel, especially if you have no idea how to make a wheel. personally, i'd throw jquery on there and be done with it even though i could code it by hand. they've already bothered to tweak it for all the various browsers, why waste an afternoon?
