He's turning into something snake-like. Seems obvious with the scales and the snake like sounds they keep over laying in the background of his scenes. But in the 'future episodes' earlier this season, he was further mutated (hidden in the robe) but still humanoid.
Maybe more has been revealed. I stopped watching again a few episodes back... bloody soap opera now.
