"It doesn't stay moist, it dries on the paper, so it doesn't rot. The mineral content may degrade the paper eventually.
It doesn't smell when it's dry. Even wet, it doesn't smell any worse than regular paint does. People seem to forget how bad paint smells when this subject comes up.
I've never painted with egg whites, but it might be similar."
