I am a canadian working in LA...but just about to move back. Visa wise its pretty easy...you need 3 years+ proffessional experience, a 4 year degree, references and a job offer letter. Take all this through passport control when you fly to the states and ask for a TN visa...they'll check you out and then stamp your passport for a year and you are free to go get your SSN. Works going up to canada if you are a US citizen too.
You just gotta have a full time job with someone who is willing to write the letter for you. In my experience, many companies have done this before so have no problems with it.
