Emails are legally binding. To the fullest degree. They are a record of your words. If you have promised soemthing in an email adn then you fail to deliver, that email can be used against you in a legal situation.
The only exceptions are if you are able to prove that you didn't send the email - someone sent ot from your account - or that the circumstances under which you made the promise were subject to changes that can be shown to cancel all previous promises.
