China is ultimately the healthiest nation, the most numerous, the most culturally and ethnically itself, industrialized without being westernized, and together with Russia are the few who always were skeptical to the false dominance of the west.
East is the side of the world associated with the symbolism of rebirth, because the sun rises in the east. In a symbolic dimension of geography, the closer one is to the east, the closer one is to the sacred, to the traditions of spiritual abundance.
Sacral symbolism and various religious and mythological traditions teach about the west as a country of death, the reign of exile. Islamic mysticism determined the west as a well of alienation. Like the sunset, the West, where the sun sets, is a symbol of spiritual decay, degradation, materialization, profanation, and the transition from life to death.
The ancient teachings assumed that somewhere in the west there is a land of hell. Some esoterics understand it as the American mainland, which explains why all information about Columbus' navigation to america in the year of eschatological expectations 1492 was made a taboo.
For the Americans themselves however the West is characterized in a different way than it is for Europeans, because civilization came to the wild western lands of Indians from the East.
