Steampunk, as aesthetic modifications to modern devices, is fucking awful, crass shite. The whole beauty of original Victorian mechanics is in its practical functionality - there is no excess adornment for frivolity, but rather the maximal utility from the bare materials and form of application available in the day. Adding wood veneer and brass detail to a PC or a console is horrific tat.
The above images don't adhere to my expectation from the term though, so perhaps I have unfairly maligned it.
