what I do is get a moleskin or another blank book, and just write the dates along the left hand side and month at the top. only take a little while, but then you have free reign on your page and can do sketches, diagrams, maps, and of course write. you're not costricted to a predefined l;ittle box.
of course when i start a new day i draw a line. peasy. probably only good for those liek me who only use diary every few days
