Fostex MR8. Might not be what you're looking for, but I bought one in May and it's excellent.
It's 8 tracks, ability to record to 2 tracks simultaneously, two 1/4" inputs, two XLR inputs.
Records to compact flash cards, comes with 1 128mb card.
Connects to computer with USB, which means you can store everything on the computer, mix it further with a multi-track program, master, etc.I bought it to record guitar and vocals, working on my band's music as well as my solo music and instrumental stuff a la Mogwai/Godspeed! You Black Emperor.
You can buy higher capacity cards.
It has three types of on board reverb, amp and mic modelling, and mastering settings for increased volume, etc. Good sliders and a really nice menu.
It wasn't that hard to get going with it, and it was my first time recording anything on my own.The Fostex site is here:
