I find that if my wife says something to me, along the lines of "it's ok if you [ fill in the blank ], I don't mind", I have to ask again in a probitive manner if she truly means that. Or, sometimes I can just see in her body language that the tongue and brain are not speaking the same language, and I bite the bullet, deciding to put my wife's desires first.
Then there are also plenty of times when I'm a raging selfish asshat. Thankfully my wife is quick to forgive.
