I only buy flowers for one broad (hrm, come to think of it, that should say something to me), but when I do it's never been roses.
She hasn't caught onto it yet, but look online for like the "definitions" of flowers and colours for a subtle statement as well. It's a nice little touch.
Tulips are my favourite flowers, but yes, good luck.
Just get something colorful, that looks good, and says, "Hey bitch ... make me a sandwich!"
